tuning chart...i need help...

Post by flautist blackie »

Recently, my band teacher suggest I use a
tuning chart (dont know what it''s really called) to help tune my instrument .
It shows how flat or sharp a note should be once you tune to A (or B flat). No,
i dont want a tuner. This thing really will explain why some notes are out of
tune once you have tuned to anyone who doesnt already know. Also, i might need
one when i get a new flute (shows me if all the notes sound how they are
supposed to once i get A in tune). I know they exist for trumpets, but does
anyone know where i can find one of these charts for flute? I would be more than
ecstatic to take other suggestions on tuning my flute. I think its a strange
instrument to tune (especially on Bb) Oh, and I am new here. About myself,
I''ve come here in search of answers to my questions while on my journey to
discovering my instrument.
"A flute
with no holes is not a flute, and a doughnut with no hole is a Danish" --Chevy
Chase The Socrates of the Republic ... rejects the flute; for ... the flute is
... exciting and emotional. Poetry proves this, for Bacchic frenzy and all
similar emotions are most suitably expressed by the flute." --Aristotle,
"Politics"

tuning chart...i need help...

I have never heard of a tuning chart for
flute so I did a Google search. I didn't come up with anything for the modern
silver flute. I did want to point out that band directors have been known to
give advice ot tips on certain instruments but their expertise is not in that
instrument. In our school district we have 4 band directors...one is a
percussionist, 2 are trumpet players and one is a clarinetist. That is why they
have 1st chairs to send others to that need help with a certain instrument. You
really only need a tuner. If the tuner says you are sharp you would pull out the
headjoint until the tuner says the note is right. If the tuner says you are flat
you push in the headjoint until the tuner says the note is right. You shouldn't
have to do this often once you find the spot that your headjoint should be at.
It won't be long before your ear will tell you if you are sharp or flat. HTH,
Kim

I think you do need a tuner. Or else someone to tell you who has a good ear....a chart cant tell you whether you are playing right or wrong...i mean it cant "hear" you play...
