Hi Samantha,

I don't know this peace nor I have much free time currently, but I live in Brasil, which is quite far from you :-)

If you're not in a rush, I'm interested in at least knowing the score so I see if it's doable. Not that I'm not capable. But I only say yes if I feel I wont hold you back.

Send me a private if you prefer.

cheers,

Zevang

Hi Sam,

I've heard it on youtube and just loved it! It's really a beautiful peace or work. How didn't I know this before?

About recording, I have some but not much experience. I think this is nothing so complicated I couldn't do anyway. If you have any software that you use as a tool it would be good if I use the same to keep the work homogeneous. I already have two Shure SM-57 mics and a io2 usb interface I use for capturing audio. My DSLR camera does videos and can capture audio as well, but not as good as the SMs.

Where did you find the scores? I'd need to buy them.

I'd suggest having a look at "reaper" for software. Think it is still free (ie:unlocked unlimited trial) or cheap, and is easy enough to use. Not heavy on post production tools, but a good multitrack recorder (and yes... I have it on my mac as well...)

Reaper seems not to be freeware, at least not anymore. But it also seems to be very good and complex for the money they ask. Excelent choice for professionals. Thanks anyway, it's really a good suggestion.

Sam,

Sorry for being impatient.
I've used Audacity here for simple recordings (only audio) some time ago that worked very well with my two Sure SM-57s mics connected to a Io2 audio interface that plugs USB into my netbook. Recordings are pretty good, not professional, but good enough.
The best thing is that Audacity is totally free and it's very simple to use. We cannot expect it's completely bug free, but it worked very well on my small projects.
I tried to attach some wav files with tests I've made using different configurations of my two SMs:
Frontal.wav (two mics in front of me)
Lateral.wav (two mics to the side of the flute, still in front of me)
FrontralELateral.wav (one mic in front, one to the side)
Tras.wav (two mics on the back)
FrontalETras.wav (one in front, the other in the back)
LateralETras.wav (one to the side, one in the back)
But I couldn't since they are wav files (not accepted) and the zipped file is too big to fit here. Where could I send them to so you take a look?

You will see how different the recordings are. Tell me what you think about them, your preference.

As you mentioned a video, I may record my playing with my Canon DSLR and send you along with the audio file.
Do you think it will work for the project?

Thanks for the links. I've bought from FluteWorld before with success. I'm only concerned about how much time it will take to arrive here. But, let's see if any other option may appear.

cheers,
Zevang

Sam, I'm really happy to take part on this :-)

Should I send you the recordings so you can evaluate the different configurations I used with my microphones?
When you think it's ok just let me know and I'll send them (need your private though).
