As a long time member of this message board, I have seen the forum start to deteriorate as a result of these posters. If there is ANYTHING I can do to help out let me know.

It is indeed a shame how some spammers attack the board...
Thank God they are identifiable, I don't even open their posts, but they are still VERY annoying....

Isn't there a way to remove the spammers from the forum? Also, I've been on other message boards where you have to wait for admin approval before you're allowed to be part of the board. Maybe you could do this, and in seeking approval the person has to answer a couple of questions about their interests...maybe what kind of flute they play or what they like about the flute, etc. Maybe the spammers answers would be easy to spot and you could keep them from joining. Just a thought. I'm not really a computer guru, but I've seen this kind of thing done before to keep out the "riff raff".

Thats true Asoalin, some forums do hold the first several posts for approval.
The Admin has elected to allow open membership.
Phineas & I usually keep up with spammers, but our apologies for the ones we miss

No problem. How did you two end up the mods for this forum? I've always wondered how one becomes a moderator for a forum.

I saw a need and volunteered. I don't play the flute but I love the instrument (flute and guitar duets for many years) but I'm online all day long at work so I knew I could help keep the place clean even if I'm not a very active member

I didn't know you don't play the flute...
Thanks for helping, it is tough these days with all the spammers...

Oye these spam attacks are frustrating... so hard to find the posts I actually want to read.
Also, I wanted to say... if it would help I would be willing to help with the moderating. I have noticed I seem to be on a bunch when other people aren't and could possibly help catch thing when others aren't around.

Well, the spam attacks have been drastically reduced. They use to happen almost everyday! This was the first one I have seen in a couple of weeks.
I will just have to check the forum first thing in the morning like I use to.

It is particularly annoying when you get a message in your mailbox saying there has been a reply to a topic you are watching, you have to log in to see what it is, and it is just spam!

But it happens everywhere, not only here...
