umm about the open hole flute

i began learning to play on an open hole flute. i have only known how to play a flute for about 2 years and a half. and i dont really feel comfortable playing with closed hole flutes. i can play other people's flutes as long as they have holes. what is the difference between open hole and closed hole???

I hope this doesn't come off as a bit harsh but how can you not be able to play a flute with closed holes but be able to play one WITH holes in the keys? Usually one moves from closed holes to open holes but there are exceptions, I suppose. Anyways, an open holed flute has holes in the keys that have to be covered by the fingers to create the desired note. Open holes are useful for certain things like shading and making little changes in intonation. Closed holed flutes are the exact opposite, you can play by pressing down on the keys because the holes aren't there.
