Cant get some lower notes on the piccolo

Post by lerchr »

I borrowed a piccolo from a friend , I play flute, and i can get low a-b-c but when i try to go to D ,with the T23-123 fingering, nothing comes out. BTW it is not just D it is D-E-F. Any idea's? ... forgot to mention that the upper octave notes work

Well if you're new to picc, it may be you. Some practice and chromatic slurs into these notes may help you figure out where they are on your picc. You might also want to have the picc checked out. I can't think of anything right off the top of my head that would cause this besides maybe a leak in the G key or something (though you would expect this to affect G too) that would cause just D, E, and F (all notes that vent in the right hand) to be affected, but your tech may find something.

Yeah, it might be you. I had a similiar problem the first couple of times I played picc. Some of the middle range notes wouldnt come out. But, I kept practicing, and in a few days, the notes just popped out. And I havent had any problems ever since.

What about asking another piccolist to try playing this instrument? In case this person could not also play it properly, it would point a leak problem at this instrument...
