New picc player needs answers!!

Post by flutie_4_christ »

Hey I just got a piccolo for Christmas and I've been practicing my butt off!!! I can't seem to get the really high G and above out. Sometimes I do that pffft noise even on an F!!!!! Is this normal for a beginner such as myself? Please Help!!

Theres an easy way to remedy this. Long tones every day. I've been practicing since Christmas also, and just yesterday, finally hit a high B. Just remember to keep a really tight and controlled embochure. You'll get up there.

Thank you for the advice. I've been playing nonstop for the past week!! When I first started I could hit all of the notes, but not all the time. It's weird. And, when I play the top notes, it's really fuzzy!! It's frustrating!! Thank you again!! :D

Also, make sure you're blowing more down into the piccolo than across..notes come out much easier and more in tune that way.
