Flute tone

Post by sarahliz »

Hi everyone!

Over the past couple days I have been sick with a sore throat and a stuffy nose. Even though I'm feeling miserable, I've been practicing my flute a lot because I have a couple important events coming up where I'm playing. While I've been practicing I've noticed my tone has been quite airy. I have always been praised by my band teachers at school for my tone(I'm 18 and a senior in high school). I recently upgraded my flute to an intermediate flute and it has improved my tone a lot. Is my bad tone because I'm ill? Any advice would be great, thanks!

Having a stuffy nose/sore throat can impact your sound. Often a cold is accompanied by dry lips and that can degrade your sound too. Drinking plenty of fluids can help rehydrate your body and offset some of the ill effects of being ill. :(

I hope you feel better soon and probably your flute tone will improve as you get better.
