Time to say hello- I am a newbie to the flute. I just got started
this Christmas when I received my first flute. I have wanted to learn to play
the flute for years and now I have my chance- yea! Problem is that I am also
just now learning to read music as well so this is going to be a long process.
My flute is a Gemeinhardt 2ps and seems like a great beginning flute. Most of my
learning is on-my-own- no teacher-- so lots of mistakes and misques but I do
enjoy the process and the journey. I am beginning the flute after having lived
the better half of my life, grey beard and long in the tooth so to speak but
anxious to get going. I envy many of beginning when you are young. I have been
fascinated by the complexity of the flute and know one can never learn it all.
Like many others I have been frustrated at getting a consistent low C and C3 but
it is getting better all the time- at least progressing. Now for those sharps
and flats. Anyway I have lots of questions that I will be posing at a later
time. As for sticky pads posted elsewhere I was wondering if I was doing
something wrong because I have them also. For me, I found if I left my flute out
to dry very well after cleaning it- the pads did not stick as badly as if I put
it away in the case right away.

First I would likte to say congratulations on starting the flute!
What do you mean by cleaning your flute, just swabbing it out right?

after playing I swap out the inside and wipe it down, then place it in the case
and leave the lid open for an hour or two. Before I close the lid I move all the
keys, especially the G sharp. I still get some sticking but is seems a little
less sticky if I do that??

Woof, I have the same flute and I've only been playing a few
months so I hope this helps. I had the same problem. I've cleaned the inside,
used the pad papers (which I didn't notice if you used)and let it dry. The pad
papers help but not completely. I purchsed a pad protector swab (not sure of the
real name). After you clean the flute you insert it in the flute and leave it
there while the flute isn't in use. It absorbs any moisture left in the flute
and draws in in this swab. I haven't had too much of a problem with the sticky
keys since I started using it. Hope this helps alittle. Good luck learning. One
more thing I am an older student also. So your not alone. [;)]
