Notes getting airy after a while of playing
Hello all again. Well I've been playing about 1 month now and when I first start my practice session the notes are clean and clear but after a short time the notes start getting airy and unclear. If I rest a bit they come back but then get airy again after a short time. Is this jus me or maybe a problem with my Yamaha YFL-381. The flute is brand new by the way.

unless there is a slight indentation in the riser that moisture could collect in, it is probably just a lack of muscle development in your embouchure. practicing long tones and working on developing your embouchure might do the trick. Seeing as how you have only been playing a month, you havent had enough time to really build up good musculature for a solid embouchure [but it will come in time].
Dont worry. I too had the same problem when I first started out. At the time I thought it was condensation in my headjoint, so I would swab it out about every 5 minutes....
but... now that I think about it, it was probably having not developed a solid embouchure yet... [I reason this because now I sometime play so long **various ensembles back to back** that the condensation sometimes dribbles out of the end...] [then I really DO have to swab it out....]
Just give it time. It will get better.
I hope this helps, but without seeing you play in person, it is really quite difficult to determine the actual cause of your problem.

Thanks that helped quite a bit. I guess I will just have to be patient.fluteguy18 wrote:unless there is a slight indentation in the riser that moisture could collect in, it is probably just a lack of muscle development in your embouchure. practicing long tones and working on developing your embouchure might do the trick.
