just got a flute and have one question

I bought a used gemeindhardt flute and i managed to get a sound out of it and to test it i would press down the other keys, when i would it seemed like the sound sounded the same...thats not supposed to happen right?

it should be a fairly linear progression with the more keys closed, the
lower the pitch.

do you have a fingering chart available to you?
So many instruments.... so little time.... :)

If not, check out www.wfg.woodwind.org. But just pressing random keys won't necessarily do it...You do need the proper fingerings for things to start happening.
