Maybe it's just me -- but I find the published lists of Armstrong flute serial numbers baffling -- especially when it comes to deciphering this serial number: H1977 .
This is a Heritage model -- but I can't figure out whether it's an older one from the Jack Moore/Bickford Brannen/Tom Greene era or something newer (and lesser).
Any ideas? Thanks!

I have an old Heritage with a serial number close to yours, so I would guess it is one of the older ones and not the re-released Heritage line that is available now.
Here is a link about a vintage Heritage: http://winds101.zenfolio.com/vintageheritageflute
Here is a link with contact information for winds101 - this lady seems to keep a Heritage or two around and for sell and it is where I purchased my flute. http://winds101.zenfolio.com/
Liz was very nice on the phone and answered lots of questions for me.
According to a Heritage she has listed on the site, the serial number 18XX was made in the late 70's, so your flute would have come before this. I'm not sure how many Heritage flutes they made a year or how many years they produced them. My first two serial numbers are 14, so mine was made earlier. I've found some articles online about Jack Moore and Tom Greene, mentioning their years with Armstrong. I would love to have more information about it all.

Re: Age of Armstrong Heritage
Hello,
I have Heritage #H2672, 14K white gold made for me in early 1973. Tom Green was the head of Heritage at that time and Jack Moore definitely made that head and had a part in the body. I know because I met Jack at a convention several years ago and he was thrilled to find the flute still being played by me. I also have the body to H2582, which I have both a wood head and a Powell head for. The tail of the original head was used in the wood head before I bought the flute so I don't know how good that head was except I know Jack Moore made it. The #H11XX may be from the very early Jack Moore etc days, but I could not say exactly and I doubt it. It was definitely NOT late 1970's.

Sorry - I meant the H18XX. It was obviously not late '70's as H-2672 was from early 1973.
