Going back to school

Post by MissyHPhoenix »

I've been struggling with the desire to go back to school to study music, and finally decided to just take the plunge and do it. So here I am, 54 years old, and I'm going to be in school again! That is, if everything works out the way I need it to, anyway. Please keep your fingers crossed for me!

Congrats! There's a woman in her late 40s/early 50's at my university that decided to do the same thing for piano. You know what? She's doing really well and we're all so proud of her. She graduates with me in the spring and will be receiving her degree in Music Education with an emphasis of Voice and Piano.

We also have a University sponsored community program as well (free of charge). You wouldn't believe how well a 98 year old can play his trombone!

It's NEVER too late to pursue a dream. I've seen it every day for the past few years. Good for you. :D

Congrats !!!! That's really exciting. Good for you.

The second flute in our orchestra is doing the same thing, he's a retired CPA, but is going back to school to get a music degree. I'm in my early 50s myself, but he is in his late 50s.

Congratulations! I'm sure it is terrifying to go back to school. While I was going to school I had several older people (no offense your really not old, just compared to the average student) in my classes, and I really enjoyed it. They always had more real life experience, and added a lot to the class. Remember you are never to old to go back to school. I think it is very admirable to keep getting educated in something that you love. Good Luck!

Is this by chance part of the New Horizons program?

The New Horizons project happens at a lot of universities around the country it's a pretty big deal ;) Our band director got one going my sophomore year in college and I was a student teacher with it for it's first 3 years there.
