EEEKK Nerves!!!

Post by hopelessfluteplayer »

I'm 14 and tomorrow I am going in for my grade 5 flute exam. I really struggle with nerves, when I get to the hall I start shaking uncontrollably which makes my playing sound awful! I am doing the ABRSM grade and have only got a short time to work out how to not get as nervous!!! I really, really need help! By 12 pm it'll all be over but I am really worried!!! Please help

Hopefull!

You'll do well!

Be confident that you are going to do the best that you can.

Keep it in perspective - you're going to play the flute for encouraging people - not face a firing squad or a judge

Don't worry, remember music is about spreading joy, have some happiness that you are able to do that at any level.

Let us know, all of the musicians in the world are rooting for you!

Sorry - I've only just seen your post so I hope the exam went well?

I did my music exams as an adult - and I swear the older you get, the worse the nerves! Anyway - I read that a banana helps to calm nerves if eaten before exam
"Nervousness and anxiety. Bananas are high in Vitamin-B, which help calm the nervous system."

Not sure that they really did anything, but seemed to help.

I so identify!
I'm sure you play the flute beautifully esp the melodic ones!
Believing that all went well for you.

Thank you so much for all your help :)

I think the exam went ok, the best it could have anyway!

I managed to remember all the scales and hopefully it didn't sound too shaky!! The examiner was lovely as well so I guess that always helps!

Thanks :D
