Hi,
I have been desperately seeking music to play on my quena online and I can't find anything. Can anyone point me towards some simple songs to practice?
And there is another problem! - I don't know what key my quena is in. How do I find out?
All the best,
A new flute player.

Re: Songs to play on my quena
To find out the key your Quena is in: play the lowest note into a tuner. This is called the bell tone. Assuming you can play a major scale from that lowest note without any funny fingerings, the lowest note should indicate the key of your Quena. My Quena for example is in Bb, but is intended to play in G minor (same difference basically... I have to do funny things to get the F#).
As for what to play... I have no idea.

Thanks fluteguy18,
that shouldn't be a problem so. Anyone else got some music for someone learning the quena?
Or any advice on where I can get some?
Thanks,

There are some nice lessons here: http://musicschool.latinflutes.com/phpautomembersarea/ (I just realized I forgot my password...)
And some sheet music here: http://quenaperu.blogspot.com/2008/12/partituras.html
I printed out a lot, but haven't played everything yet...
Good luck!

FG18, I am constantly amazed at the depth of your musical knowledge! I hope I will be able to learn as much in school.

Re: Songs to play on my quena

Let's just say that I spend a lot of time doing research and networking on my own (outside traditional flute playing circles). Today for example I was given free reign over what instruments to play in a Madrigal Feaste (Renaissance Holiday Dinner and Show), of which none are going to be concert flutes. And in other news I got an email today from the head of Human Resources at Powell Flutes and they're wanting to talk to me about a career in flutemaking.

Many doors are opening in my life. Now it's just a matter of deciding which ones to go through!

Sounds like things are looking up. The Powell possibility could be really interesting. Good luck!
