Could some one help to identify and evaluate Muramatcu

Hello every body.
I hope it's not against the forum rules to ask this kind of question.

I don't play Flute, but I have one Muramatsu flute for years.

Please help me to identify it's type according to Mura line.
And secondary can you please estimate it's value.

Since Muramatsu doesn't engrave the model, your best bet is to contact Muramatsu. Send them the serial number and they can tell you the model. The value would have to be determined by a thorough assessment. Since you say you have had it for years, but don't play, it would probably need some work to put it in good playing shape.

my one year old - Muramatsu GX III has a model marking on the footjoint - I was told so by the distributor - it is (mine is) discretely printed on the rib plate of the footjoint, hidden beneath the spatulas & gizmo keys. This however is not an MA issue.

Not sure if this is a new practice - whether the older flutes are the same.

I have a Muramatsu AD and the only markings on the footjoint rib are "SILVER". Mine is about 15 years old and it was not sourced via Muramatsu America. I know that the U.S. distributor also stamps "MA" on the ribs to denote flutes that Muramatsu America imported for the U.S. market. So, perhaps they do mark the model on flutes from MA.

Val and Erv @ Muramatsu America told me that the "MA" stamp on the rib only started in 2005-ish.

Dear Regina,

The only Muramatsu models that list their model name are the EX and GX models.
The first generation have EX/GX followed by a three or four digit serial number engraved on the rib near the first post. (EX123, etc).

The second and third generation EX and GX models are engraved on the back of the neck of the body.
It will read "EXll 12345" or "EXlll 12345" (or GXll 12345, GXlll 12345). So basically, the second generation have the model with Roman numeral ll,
followed by a five digit serial number. The third generation will have the model with Roman numeral lll.

All of the other models, ST, DN, AD, DS, SR, Alto,Platinum Clad, and Gold all have a five digit serial number engraved on the front of the
neck of the body. Based on the serial number and features of the flute, we can determine the model. These models are not engraved with
their name.

The word silver appears on the rib if the flute is silver.

Addressing your follow up question, what you are seeing on the foot joint would be GX, followed by two digits, which would be
the last two digits of the serial number found on the back of the neck of the body. So, if your serial number reads: GXlll 12345,
the stamp on the foot joint would be GX 45.
