Help, please. I want to buy a flute for my friend. She
used to play the flute when she was younger (in high school). she''s now in
her 20''s, and she''d like to have a flute to play again, but she lost hers
a while back. I know NOTHING about flutes. Does anyone have any advice on what
kind to buy? I''ve looked around a little and there are bass flutes, alto
flutes, and not sure if any other kinds. i have no idea the difference. i just
need something simple and cheap...max $200. if you have any suggestion on what
type, brand, or any other input, i''d appreciate it. thanks.

flute (they are the regular ones). Armstrong, Yamaha, and Geminheardt (sp?) are
good brands. Hope you have luck finding one!

I don't believe your friend will be happy
with a sub $200 flute. Problem with cheap flutes is they are difficult or even
impossible to play and often are too cheaply made to be reapaired. If they are
playable they may not stay in tune. The list of problems with cheap flutes is
endless. Either up your budget to about $350 or Your best alternative is to buy
a used flute which you can find for $200 on ebay or usedflutes.com I understand
you are trying to do a good thing but you may do more harm than good if you buy
the wrong flute. If you insist on trying to get a sub $200 flute make sure you
buy it from a company that will stand behind it and allow you to return it for a
full refund for at least a couple weeks. I believe the Wal-Mart's warehouse
store, Sam's club, currently has a throw away flute made by Simba for sale
under $200. They usually allow returns for 30 days. This would allow for an
extended test of that level of flute. I in no way recommend owning the Simba,
but hope testing it will convince you that you should spend more or buy used.
