Issue with my G# key, other notes will not play.

Post by Earlybird »

The last time I played my flute was a few days before Christmas, and it was working fine then. It has been sitting in its case ever since. This morning I took it out to practice, and immediately noticed something was badly wrong. My F and D naturals were not playing. My G# key was wide open. I closed it and saw that there was a wire loose. I pushed the wire back a little and the G# key is back to normal, but clicks each time I use it, something that never happened before. My F and D still won't play. It was fine before Christmas, and I hadn't touched it since then. I am really confused and would be grateful for some help with this!

Sounds like the G# spring is loose. Take it to a repair shop.

You may not have been aware of dropping the instrument, but it does sound like it was knocked

The clicking noise will likely be G# lever rubbing/hitting against one of the sides of the G Key

The G# key spring failure could be simply dislodged spring or the spring has rotated in its cradle and as such wont maintain tension for very long

Either way its of to the local repair shop
