Re: Old Bundy Flute help

Try looking up the serial number at this site. It has a lot of different brands listed and Bundy is one of them.

Re: new flute

There are a lot of good brands and a bunch of lousy ones. I'll refer you to the Fluteland FAQ on this board. It has a list of good flute brands and a number of reputable dealers. This has been compiled and refined by members of this group. See this link:

Re: new flute

You can buy a better closed hole flute or if you prefer the open holes, get a set of plugs to close the holes. Try removing one and continue playing for a few weeks to adjust to that one open hole. Later, remove another and repeat. If you find one hole that give you problems just keep it plugged. Th...

Re: Back to flute after 20 years

Practice long tones and try to achieve a consistency of tone. If you find yourself regressing, take a break and resume in a half hour. As you develop your embouchure muscles, things will become more consistent.

Re: Powell Signature

The S2 pads are very similar to Straubinger and were created to compete with Straubinger. There are some small differences, but they are of similar design and construction and one should expect similar performance from both. It's sort of like the difference between Mercedes and BMW. :D

Re: Hello

Hi and welcome to Fluteland. It is possible to modify a flute to accommodate various physical limitations such as arthritis but there are not a lot of flute technicians who can reliably perform such modifications. Some of the more common changes are to add touch plates or extensions to some keys so ...

Re: Leakage or tightening needed?

It sounds like your flute needs to be checked over by a good flute technician. In spite of COVID-19 and unless you are in quarantine, it should be possible to get it serviced at your nearest music repair shop. If you really do not want to venture out into public, then you could consider shipping it ...

Gemeinhardt should be able to tell you a bit more about your flute. Here is their contact page:

Re: Started playing flute after 45 years

Good for you and welcome back to the flute! It's best to divide your time between working on fundamentals (scales, rhythm, tone, etc.) and actual songs. That way, you build your skills but also get to work on enjoyable and familiar music too. I highly recommend the Trevor Wye beginner books. I've in...

Re: New flute day!

Congrats on the new flute. I see that both of the trill pads appear to have small tears in the pad skins. That may not affect playability at the moment, but they are likely to get worse over time. Save yourself some later aggravation and get those tended to soon.

Re: Who makes Gear4Music instruments?

Gear4Music instruments are made in China by one of many unnamed factories. I have not tried their flute but I bought a tenor sax from them and while it is not quite on the same level with more established instrument makers, I found the quality acceptable with only a few small issues (i.e. a key cork...

Re: Can a flute play a low B flat?

Another way would be to use a headjoint with a moveable embouchure hole. You slide it up and down as you blow and the pitch rises and falls. A bit expensive though I expect. You just described Robert Dick's Glissando Headjoint for flute. They are available for sale for around $1400. See the video o...

I believe it is not initially enabled for new members. After making a few more posts to prove you are not spamming the site, the avatar feature should become enables for you.

Re: Questions

Practice time depends upon your current skill level and your goals. Two hours might be a bit long for a beginner but not enough for a professional. If you get tired, STOP. In general, I would recommend devoting half your time to scales and exercises and the other half to actual works of music. Trevo...
