Actually, it was the other way around. Bundy instruments were made and distributed by Selmer USA.

Re: Do I need my Pinky on certain notes?

The flute is balanced using three points: your chin, the first joint of your left pointer finger, and your right pinky finger. Once you get the hang of equalizing the light pressure across all three points, balancing the flute will be easier. There are only a few notes played that require removing t...

Re: Returning to playing

Your best bet is to play a little each day - even if it's only for a few minutes. That is far better than trying to do long marathon practice sessions once or twice a week.

Re: Need help dating my piccolo

The CW just means it is a C piccolo made of wood. I think you can use the 4W serial number chart. 2550 would place it in the 1981-1985 range. Since yours in on the lower end of that range it was likely made in 81 or 82.

Re: Where to go after dropping lessons?

Your best bet would be to find another flute teacher that better meshes with your expectations. Check out nearby universities and professional symphonies and find out if they have someone on their staff who offers flute lessons. Interview more than one teacher and discuss your frustrations. Ask how ...

The gold source for alto and bass flute info is Chris potter's Low Flutes web site. She regularly tests many alto and bass flutes and posts her recommendations. You can find it here:

Re: Old Muramatsu flutes

I play a modern Muramatsu but unfortunately, I cannot tell you much about any of the older M series flutes. I believe that all Muramatsu flute are and were handmade. Most likely, the older models simply designate which ones were open or closed holes, all silver, silver body w/plated keys, or silver ...

Re: new flute

No one can tell you which flute will be best for you. Everyone is different and will get different results with different flutes. You need to try them yourself and pick the one that plays the way YOU want it to play.

Re: Homemade flute sleeves

Flute stands are OK to use for very brief breaks in your practice but it's not a good idea to leave your flute on a stand when you are finished practicing. Leaving them out makes them subject to more rapid tarnishing and leaves them vulnerable to accidental damage. This is especially true when pets ...

Re: how to achieve the "harsh" sound?

Well, there are several ways to get a "harsh" sound on the flute: 1- Fluttertongue - This is done exactly as the name indicates. The tongue is fluttered like rolling an R in Spanish while you play - rrrrrrrrrrrrrr 2 - Flutter the uvula - The uvula at the back of the throat can be fluttered in a simi...
