Re: Baroque sounding flute with Boehm system
Thank you Phineas for your reply. Could you tell me how authentic is the sound? The Baroque flute has a soft sweet sound with very little overtone. Does your suggestion gives approximately the same sound? Are there any sound recordings, e.g. on you tube or other websites that you can recommend so t...

Re: Baroque sounding flute with Boehm system
I have used this setup for years. I hand have found it to be very effective as well as the best solution for the money. You may have to get it fitted to your flute however.woodbourne wrote:1. Buy a new wooden headjoint without a riser and lip plate. This is by far the cheapest option, about US $100 to 200.

Re: The Flute View's Winning Composition Now Available!
Interesting piece! Mostly thought your video on the different techniques very interesting. I have used a lot of those, but never really thought about how I did them. I use to play in a lot of drum circles using the flute kind like a percussion.

Re: Upgrade flute for a 6th grader
My dd has been playing since 2nd grade and is now going to middle school. She is in a performing arts school so she plays many, many times a week. She is currently playing a very old Gemeinhardt 2SP which we bought when she was 7 because it was the only flute with the extra curved joint that the st...

Re: Soldered vs. Drawn Tone Holes
As a person who has purchased and played on MANY flutes for a lot of years, I call snake oil on this one. Are we REALLY talking about physics, or are we talking about craftsmanship/design? The flute is nothing more than a big tuner. You can take a headjoint off of the flute, and still make a sound. ...

Re: Tuning by Ear
This is a loaded question, but here are my 2 pennies.... Play a tone, play a note along side of it. If it sounds good, you are in tune.....simple ...RIGHT? Yes, it is that simple. In the end, it is all about what sounds good. There are a lot of factors that effect the pitch you hear.... 1. You and t...

Re: New To Forum - Shopping For New Flute!
I'm currently in the market to buy a new, much needed upgrade from my student model Gemeinhardt. Yes, I'm half way through my college career and I play on a student model flute. It surprises many people. Does not surprise me. If you are a good player, you can sound good on almost anything :) My bud...

Re: Traveling with a flute?
I will be traveling this summer for several months, probably in several climates (heat, humidity, dryness, cold, rain) I will be camping most of the time. Is it realistic to bring my flute with me, or is it bound to get ruined somehow and I'm better off leaving it at home? I really don't want to st...

Re: Buffet-Crampon model
If it plays, why worry about what model it is?
Besides, it could simply be a 227 with a 225 Headjoint.

It looks interesting. However anything the promotes a device over practice to change your sound is snake oil to me. If your flute plays fine, I would not waste my money on it.norway wrote:Tried it? Comments?

Re: buyer beware
Hey Missy, Any time you order ANYTHING custom made, the trade off is dealing with the builder's weirdness. Usually, builders will take more orders in a given time period than they can realistically produce. These same people/builders also have a bad habit of spending almost all of money that comes i...
