Since marching season started up again, I've been playing piccolo for the past couple of weeks, and rarely have had the time to practice on my Gem flute. I recently recieved my Honor Band audition information for the Tournament of Roses Honor Band and have decided to return to my usual 3-hour a day ...

If you use an open holed flute, it'd be best to plug up those keys. During marching there's all the sweat, etc that can get to the keys, tarnish problems and lots of pad wreckage. Plugging them up will also prevent some liquids and other harmful things to get to the pads. Another effective alternati...

From what Lisa stated, I somewhat agree, though I'm not entirely sure if I've progressed enough. Though I've only had my 3SB for almost a year, I've already been looking at the Powell (Sonare) since my local dealer has it in stock and am hoping to test it out soon. I think I'll stick with the 3SB un...

Vieri Bottazzini's Curriculum
As a sophomore in high school this fall, I feel pressured to accomplish more in my flute playing. I've subscribed to FluteTalk and found an article in the July/August 2004 issue with Vieri Bottazzini on the cover, and his article talks about his start at playing the flute at age 11 and later a deep ...

Ab3 and F#3 Difficult Notes?
I noticed that playing Ab and F# in the third octave comes out stifled and I''m not even going to touch on fourth octave B-natural (I use B-foot flute). o_o When I play those three notes, they always seem to come out stifled and airy unlike the notes that precede and proceed them. Is that natural? A...

Memorizing
[http://music2master.com/lesson47.html] Has a couple of tips on memorization. Like what Embum said, I think memorization just might be a knack of mine since I enjoy doing it. With the school season coming to a close, summer is coming up as well as the next field season -- another four to five months...

Hindering Progress?
Thank you for all of the help you've given me. I think I haven't expanded my repertoire enough, so I've been getting music that I can possibly use whether beginner, intermediate, or advance, and it's helping me learn the things that I should have learned maybe a couple of years back. Hopefully, prac...

Do you practice sitting or standing ?
[quote] ---------------- On 3/27/2004 10:07:42 AM Well the board seems to have slowed down once again so I thought it would be a good time to ask a question that I have been thinking about. When you practice, do you sit or stand ? I usually sit when practicing. Occasionally I will stand when practic...

Also, depending on the type of air she blows through her instrument (warm or cold) determine how much condensation occurs in the instrument. At times, I switch between cold and warm air through my instrument and condensation occurs less when cold air is used, but sound production and quality isn't n...
