Have you ever played the piccolo in a practice for an hour or so, then switched to a song where you play the flute and found it takes getting used to? Same idea. Yes I have.....on many occassions. Once you've done it enough you find that long hours on piccolo and then switching to flute actually en...

That's great! Thanks guys! I've already got the sound system. I just need a MUCH better mic to actually produce a nice flute sound on stage. Now i've got a pretty good base to start shopping! Thanks again.

I would have to agree 100% on this! I think it all comes back to praise vs. encouragement. I've been learning about this in a parenting class i've been taking through my church but it applies to all areas of life. If you praise a child (or a flute student) on something that they have done it doesn't...

Woof, I understand what you are saying about nothing being blown with enough force to be forced from the esophagus or the stomache into the instrument. What I was talking about was the residue that sticky, sugary coke products leave on the lining of your mouth, tongue, and teeth. If this wasn't an i...

no matter what notes i play, they always come out airy. my instructor says that its because i just recently got braces, and is always telling me to "open my throat." i dont get what that means and can someone explain to me how to do it? I had an instructor put it to me this way once and I think it'...

I would make sure that you aren't pinching those upper register notes by closing the back of your throat. Try to remember to stay open in the back!

If you must drink coke then I would suggest doing it before you play and then brushing your teeth afterward. If you drink while playing you will be coating the inside of the instrument with a LOT of sugar and this will start to corrode your pads.

You might want to check the dates on a post before you respond. This was a post from over 2 years ago! Just food for thought!

Sarah Palin...."flutist"?

In light of recent events, this video has surfaced on youtube. I have to say, this is just my humble opinion of course, if that "song" had been any longer I think my ears would have literally started to bleed profusely. But i'll let you all be the judge. I just love how they announce her as an "acco...

I personally haven't had mine out...yet. I need to though i've been putting it off. But while I was in college, a girl in my flute quartet had her's pulled and played a gig with us 3 days later. I think you should be just fine. I hope that helps!

Re: Gemeinhardt Flutes Rule

If you are getting back into flute playing, then the Gemeinhardt is the way to go. Easy to play, nice sounds, easy to care for. Go with the obvious choice. Anyway, it's not the flute - it's YOU. We tend not to lead people toward a specific brand of instrument on here. It's just not wise considering...
