Teeth
I don't see why not. As Kim said, as long as the dentures are secure and don't move and shift constantly, playing the flute with dentures should be fine, no different than normal teeth. In fact, dentures could even be some what an advantage because the teeth are straight and align; some people are u...

Alto flute
That's really cool that your daughter got to try an alto flute. I've only seen pictures though I have read alot about them. The curved headjoint things seem interesting to me, but obviously some people don't like it because there are straight headjoints for alto flutes. I would hope that I sometime ...

How often does band class meet ?
At my school their are 2 6th grade bands, two combined 7th grade bands and two combined 8th grade bands (this is because we have so many students in band) For one trimester, one of the 6th grade bands has band every day while the other band has it twice a week. On the third trimester it is switched ...

Just wanted to say Hi
Hi! Anyway that's a very smart idea (learning on
your daughter's open hole) I'm not exacting planning no buying an open hole
until high school. There expensive and I want to save up for it.

Practicing
[quote] ---------------- On 3/8/2004 1:38:19 AM at the start of each practice, how long does it take before you could get to the right embouchure? it still takes me a couple of minutes. i'm just thinking, if i'm gonna play/accompany a tune, it's already half-way through, while i'm still finding my e...

One thing though, I can't play with the songs on any
instrument other than a C instrument. The harmony is meant to harmanize with a
the piano which is a C instrument and therefore the harmany/melody would need to
be changed to a different key for a different kind of instrument

About a few years ago I bought a keyboard at the grocery store (don''t worry this post DOES have to do with something relevent). It was kinda cheap and I didn''t think of it as any use at all except for a fun "toy". I was wrong. Anyway. . .the keyboard comes with a song book and has 99 songs in it. ...

Practicing
I have band at school everyday and that's for about 45 minutes. Technically I don't count school band as practicing. . . I try to get at least 30 minutes of practicing a night (we are required to practice 140 min a week) Unfortuanately I don't always get my practice in due to my school workload whic...

Taking the pludge
Part 3: Notes: Yes the day has finally come. You've now graduated from toot tooting on the headjoint to toot tooting on your fully assembled instrument. By the way? Let's shortly talk about buying instructional books. There are many out there and when you're staring at a shelf full of them it can ge...

Taking the pludge
Part 2: Playing: So you've got the notes and counting down. Now you can start playing Minuet right? Highly doubt it. Before putting the flute together try playing just the headjoint. By putting your palm against the end you can lower the pitch. Playing the headjoint is important for finding the corr...

Taking the pludge
Okay, I''ve read many topics on the the subject of taking the pludge and self teaching the flute. I''ve heard many good points on both sides but not as many tips on what to do if you ARE going to teach yourself, so here I am: Part One: Most people want to begin putting together their flute right awa...

to self or not self teach
As I sixth grade unhappy 2-year saxophonist I taught myself the flute. Currently I am now better than most of the flute players who have been playing through school AND who have been taking private lessons for years! I am now playing through school after setting the saxophone aside. I don't think ev...

Yeah I think it's a great learning experience.
Since we all play one song EACH we get to here the upper high school bands play
hard advanced music. Every year as I think "I'll play like that someday." it's
really cool

Okay, I think somebody mentioned this book (fluteloversmom?) and in band we''re playing a song from it "76 trombones" and I was wondering what other songs are in it. I''m not the biggest fan of movies like "The Music Man (thought actually I really LOVE the Music Man because it was a great movie!) bu...
