I was told that a flute is supposed to be played ....
Hi again. I'm going to try to keep this as short as possible, but have to explain what is going on. I bought a new Amadeus 900 last October. Loved it for a couple of months, then it literally started falling apart. A cork fell off, was replaced, two days later another fell off; repairman showed me t...

Need opinions, please
How would you describe the sound of a Pearl Elegante flute, in particular the Elegante Coda. Bright? Warm? Anything? (For example -- I consider an Amadeus to have a very bright tone)
Thanks!
Thanks!

Thanks! I meant to get back to this and forgot .... Cflutist -- "Cannot comment on the book that pied_piper speaks of, but I have a book "Favorite Wedding Classics" for $8.95 with 15 songs that are scored for 1 -3 flutes which also has a piano accompaniment part available." Do you know the publisher...

When I started back, I purchased the Rubank Method books, the Intermediate & Advanced, and those got me going well. They have good scale & arpeggio studies, and the two Advanced books have Etude studies that are a lot of fun. Once you've gotten some of those under your fingers, so to speak, there ar...

It is not impossible at all! I am 52 years old and took the flute back up 1-1/2 years ago. Went over 30 years without playing. I started back up by myself, then began lessons with a college professor, and was asked last September to be the flute instructor at a local music store. I play in several c...

Student has a bad habit
I have a student who is quite good, has been playing for 4 years (I think), and has a very bad habit. Her first band director instructed all of his flutes to hold their left elbow way up in the air in front of them; probably to be "uniform" in appearance, as was stated in this post previously. This ...

I agree with the above statements! Kudos to you for teaching yourself, and always remember that you are doing it for fun -- if you get stuck, instead of getting upset, go back and play something that you really like so that you can remind yourself why you are doing it in the first place! Tonight8, t...

Good idea -- should've done that from the start. It is Zes Pastorales by JB de Boismortier. I thought it was in French since it is by Boismortier, but looking at it now, I think it is in Dutch, guessing because it looks like it was printed in Muziekuitgeverij Ixyzet, AMsterdam. Making an assumption ...

What does this mean?
I have a french piece of music that has the plus sign (+) above several notes on all of the pieces. I have never seen this before and can't find it in any of my reference books. Does anyone know what this means??
Thanks.
Thanks.
