Correcting a Student's Hand Position

I'm a college student giving flute lessons while still in school for a music education degree. I ran in to a problem in teaching last week and cannot find a way to fix it! I have a high school student who holds her open hole flute with her right hand tilted off to the side, maybe at a 45 degree angl...

College Auditions

So, I am a music education major going in to my sophomore year of school. I was in my university's wind ensemble last year, but I still need to re-audition. I was right in the middle of the section last year. I know that I have improved and want to show that to our director in my audition. I have a ...

Flute Consistantly Flat

It seems I have to push in to 1/8 of an inch in order to play in tune without any adjustment from myself (lipping up, etc). Every note is equally flat or sharp, but it's kind of scaring me to push in that much on a regular basis. I tried the rod test, too, and the little line shows up directly in th...

Correctly Swabbing a Flute

So, after playing, I always swab out my flute, like a good little girl. I usually use my BG brand body cloth, which you slide over the cleaning rod. I have always been taught to simply pull the cloth/rod combo through each part (foot joint, body and a separate cloth for the head joint), but a friend...

Re: Used Muramatsu Gx vs. New Muramatsu Ex? Thoughts?!

Thanks, everyone! I am leaning more towards the EX, but who knows? I may even end up with a Miyazawa!

Used Muramatsu Gx vs. New Muramatsu Ex? Thoughts?!

I currently play on a very old Yamaha 481. I am a music major and therefore am in need an upgrade. Right now, I'm looking at Muramatsu flutes, as I have heard only wonderful things about them. I, of course, will play test my new flute, but I am wondering which is better-a used Muramatsu Gx or a new ...
