I am a flutist, but I also play tuba and sax. It takes a lot of practice but I'm 1st chair as a flutist, 3rd chair tuba, and 6th chair sax. I love it!!! :D I'm trying to get my band director to let me play the french horn. He says to sharpen up on the sax first. Play the tuba and the French horn! h...

This one can probably only be done by brass players. What I do is blow into the hole like it was a mouthpiece for a brass instrument. You can actually play notes and songs, though I think the whole flute is one semitone above when you play like this.

You're right, imitating "oo" works. Of course I'll need some more practice, but this really helps. Thanks.

I took up my aunt's old flute and experimented, because I had seen people playing it in my school's band and I had always wondered what it was like. I couldn't get a sound at first, b...

Unusual problem playing middle notes

I have a problem playing middle notes, mostly middle E and F, but the notes higher than E and F are hard, too. Say I play middle E. What comes out is not only middle E, but low E as well. I get two octaves at the same time. I've tried putting more air in, adjusting my embouchoure (sp?), and using al...
