Buying New Flute

I want to buy a new flute, but I don't really know where to start! I mean, there are so many brands out there and so many shops, and everything. Can someone help? Where should I start?!

Sicilienne

I'm playing Sicilienne Faure at the moment, and in a monthish I'm going to play it at a state competition. As probably most of you know, the piece was written by Faure as incidental music to the play 'Pelleas et Melisande'. I was wondering what people knew about the play/story and where the piece ac...

Syrinx

I'm playing Syrinx by Debussy at the moment and I love it SO much!

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone had anything to say about it, like what that like/ don't like about it, any hints on playing it, anybody that plays it well, etc.

Thanks

Holding Flutes

I was just wondering how everyone holds their flutes. My school music teacher (who mainly plays brass) was telling me the other day to hold my flute up higher, so it's basically 90 degrees to my body. I don't usually have it like that, just a bit lower down, but not really low. But I'm sure I rememb...
