oh also...on occassion I have felt some of the moisture build up leak out of a hole after I have been playing for a while. Do you guys swab out your flutes intermittantly during sessions or only after you are done?

I have been swabbing my flute following each practice with a rod and cleaning rag, as well as wiping off the exterior with the polishing cloth. I definitely could see how you would not want to leave a wet swab inside the flute, and inside the case. When I saw the pad saver on an online instrument st...

Can you actually see a bruise, or does it just hurt like one? I can't really see a bruise. I get the bruise feeling when I first pick up my flute to play. It is right on the far left edge of my hand/finger joint (when looking at my left palm)....it is a little boney right there. Once I'm going, I d...

Pad Savers and tarnish strips

These swabs that are intended to be left in the flute...are they recommended?

What about the anti-tarnish strips?

Bruise?!?!

I just started playing again. I don't remember feeling bruised at the base of my left first finger when I played years ago. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong?

How about a get to know you poll....

1) What is your current association with the flute? (prof, hobby, band student, teacher, etc)

2) How many years have you played?

3) How often and how long do you practice?

4) Do you play any other instruments?

5) Tell us something non-music related about you?

Thanks everyone for your input. I did decide to go with the Pearl 505RBE. Although I ordered it new from a instrument dealer online, I did make my way down to a music store in my area and tried them out first. The Gemeinhardt 3B that I was considering was a used one which was being sold by an indivi...

Pearl Quantz 505 and Gemeinhardt 3B

Hi, I'm curious about opinions as to how these two flutes compare. I'm looking to get a flute and start playing again just as a hobby (I played up through high school 20 years ago). I definitely want open hole and a low b foot...the offset g seems like a great feature. I am on a budget though (my te...

Music/Book suggestion for RE-learning flute

Hi, I played the flute in grade school through high school, but that was 20 years ago. I am interested in picking up flute playing again just as a hobby. I'm sure I will have to teach myself to read music and flute technique again (hopefully it will be like 'riding a bicycle) :P Any recommendations ...
