Do not boot the computer that lost data! Using ANOTHER computer, get these two: TestDisk (Grenier) utility (free); File Scavenger (paid). If you need really fast octave jumps, you could write the arrangement for two flutes, or a flute and a piccolo. First flute plays the top note, second flute the bottom note, in quick succession, and repeat.

Would you prefer having French keys on an alto flute? One could make it work with very large hands and very long fingers.
