Ibert Concerto

Post by sherbert789 »

I have a question about the Ibert Concerto . . . I'm struggling through this piece right now to use for college auditions next year.

In the first movement, in like the very beginning it switches between 2/4 and 3/8 a couple of times. Is it 1/4 = dotted 1/4 since nothing is specified? I'm really confused about this. Could someone please clarify this for me? Thanks!!!

There is no tempo change, so the sixteenth notes remain even. This does mean it is hard to practice with a metronome (since the 3/8 measures have 1 1/2 beats.) Just imagine there were no barlines at all if that helps you be less confused.

Set your metronome on the smallest reasonable note value--the 8ths or 16ths. :D

Ohhh ok thank you!!! I took it as 1/4 = dotted 1/4, so I was playing the 3/8 bar as a 6-tuplet. And I listened to the recording and it was like . . . something isn't right!! I just couldn't figure out what it was (it all just goes too fast!).

Thanks so much!! I have to conquer this piece by the end of the summer . . . or at least this movement.
