Does your school band music give you the opportunity
do to solo''s or duets at concerts? Or is it only the band as a group
performing ? Does your school have a flute choir ? Does your band program have
other groups like Jazz band that flutes can join ? Kim

Solo's or Duet's
At school we have a 6th grade jazz band, Jazz Lab
7-8th grade (no audition) and Jazz Experience 7-8th grade (audition). We don't
have solo's or duets play at concerts however there is a yearly solo and
ensemble contest (it's not required) for 7-8th graders which is in 2 weeks.
I'm going to be playing a solo and a duet in that. There are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
place metals, it's not a competition against others however but a competition
against yourself (if that makes sense)

Wow..it sounds like you have a few things outside of
regular band class. Good luck with your competition in 2 weeks. I like the idea
that it isn't a competition against each other. It sounds like good chance for
students to challenge themselves. Kim
