I'm just learning to play the flute. I desire to play the flute only for my self enjoyment. I'm signed up for a 16 flute lesson contract with a local music store.
After those 16 lessons are finished, I plan to teach myself only.
The reason I will not continue with flute lessons is that I simply can't afford it.
But, I'm curious about learning flute online. Of course its best to have a "one on one" with a music teacher, but that out for me. And, what confuses me is how can your "online teacher" hear how your doing with the flute lessons.
I'm really serious about this and would appreciate any information from
any "online flute students"..
Well, for online lessons to work, your PC must be equiped with at least a microphone and speakers so that you can communicate via the web. I don't know the specfics of the online lesson provider, but there are several different web collaboration tools that enable two-way communication. Some of those are "voice" only, but that would support any type of audio - including the flute. Some of the web collaboration tools also allow video. If both your and the teacher's PC are equiped with a webcam, you can see and hear each other.
So, while it's not quite as good as "being there", it can be a reasonable alternative. Now after saying all that, while it's possible, it's still not the same as "being there". That may sound a bit contradictory, but if you really think about it, it's not.
I don't know what the cost is for online lessons, but if there's not a big difference between the cost for live or online lessons, I'd vote for the live lessons. The only way that I would consider online lessons would be due to the distance between student and teacher and if it were a teacher that I could not otherwise study with due to that distance.
If you can't afford live weekly lessons, consider every-other-week or even once a month.
