We are approaching a flute purchase and are
considering adding Altus to our list of possibilities. Has anyone played one of
these....and do you have any thoughts on them..pro''s or con''s ? Thanks,
Kim

The Altus 807 is hugely popular and
has great sound. Its also their least expensive model and plated. I dont like
the Altus sound as much as others but that comes under the heading of taste.
They have a very good scale and are soundly made. A freind of a freind just
purchased an 807 after trying several at a flue fair including Pearl and Sonare
both having more sivler content and she loved the 807 and it sounded better. For
whatever reason the more expensive and higher silver content models starting
with the 907 for whatever reason don't win favor with as many players.
Definetly worth a taste test. It could be more than a Penny saved

I tried out an Altus.. I don't
remember the model but it was a professional model, around $5000 or $6000. It
had a very nice sound, but in the end, it just wasn't a good fit for me. I
think it totally depends on the person using it.. I think it would be a very
good flute for the right person. From what I've heard, Altus has a good
reputation for being a quality company.
Cheers,
Emily

Different companies do have different
sounds and when you get good enough/ serious enough to buy a really good flute
you have to determine which sound is right for you. Among the big companies
Altus, Miyazawa, Muramatsu and Haynes all have a different sound and all are
very high quality instruments.
