engraved lip plate

Post by liloleme » Wed Nov 26, 2003 11:35 am

Hey I''m just looking for some advice on whether or
not to get my lip plate engraved. I''ve heard that the engraving will make it
easier for me to hold my embouchure in place and stop sliding. I''ve been
finding that with my new flute I seem to have a problem with sliding the longer
I play. I''ve been warned that this is because I have a gold lip plate and
that the gold softens as it heats up and will creat difficulties with the
embouchure. Should I get my lip plate engraved? Would it help with my embouchure
at all? It seems like such a minimal thing... but if it would truely help I''d
like to know. Thanks a bunch []

Hi, I can't really say for sure that the engraving
would help. My daughters first flute had a gold lip plate and she never had any
problem with slipping that you mentioned. Her new flute has a gold lip plate
with an engraving and she told me she doesn't notice any difference from the
one without the engraving. My flute has regular silver lip plate and I don't
feel any difference when I have played my daughters flute. I have read that
engraving has helped some people it just hasn't made any difference here with
us. Kim

you don't have to spend money engraving a lip
plate, if you are not going to perform anytime soon, cut a postage stamp (into a
circle) and stick it on the place where the engraving would be (where your chin
may slide), it can come off (not thaaaaaat easily, but it will) hope this helps,
bye~ [;)]

I had my headjoint engraved, for that exact reason,
however, I also had it done because I'm on a flute that I'll be playing for a
really really long time. It's a little pricey especially if you're looking to
upgrade in the future. I agree with the stamp idea, I've known several people
that have done that and have been told it works just as well. Good luck!
