Basics of Flute Playing, Tone Production and Fingerings

I'm playing a piece that has quickly slurred repeated D-F-F-D-F-D, second octave. Is there a trick to this like cheating on the D and leaving the 1st lh finger down, or cheating on the F and leaving off the Eb key? Or both?
Technically, all notes should be played with their proper fingering. Sometimes, what is "quick" for one person may be OK for another. Practice the phrase slowly with a metronome and using the proper fingerings. Gradually increase the metronome tempo and continue practicing that phrase. After a few days, you may find that you are able to to play it with the proper fingerings. However, if you cannot play the phrase smoothly at the desired tempo, shortcuts may sometimes be needed. In that case and as a last resort, you might leave the RH pinky up and LH first finger down while playing the phrase.
