I'm new

Post by flutes&veggies » Thu Apr 25, 2013 10:52 am

Hello everyone!
I am new here and have just started to learn to play the flute - I had my first lesson last weekend. I am 58 years old and I am hoping that you can teach an old dog new tricks (please don't take that literally! :D ) As you can probably guess I need all the help I can get so I'm looking forward to "meeting" you and learning some more!
:D

Hello flute&veggies. Welcome to fluteland. You've certainly come to the right place. I'm relatively new too so I know where you're at. The flute is such a lovely instrument to play and I'm sure you will find it very rewarding each time you clear a milestone. Just be patient with yourself. It should always be therapeutic and never a frustration. Enjoy the journey :D

The good news is that there are some really clued up people on here, across the whole range of flute stuff, so there's plenty of advice to be had. Good luck ;)

You're not too old to learn the flute - not at 58 years young! Welcome and ask away - we're happy to answer your questions.

Thank you everyone for your kind replies! I didn't have the best time with it this week. There were times I just couldn't seem to get a note out of it. :( I am having a hard time finding the "sweet spot". However, I found a great link to a Sir James Galway masterclass where he talked about and demonstrated embouchure and it was a great help! :D My hubby says I expect too much of myself and that I try too hard and I think he is right. I have my second lesson today and Rome wasn't built in a day as they say. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Welcome to the board flutes&veggies

The investment in time and slow practice will take you far. Just gotta play. Goodness will surely surface.

Anything else are just tools for debates on flute boards
