Haynes Classic Fusion

Post by Tom144 » Sat Mar 02, 2013 11:52 am

My son just got a Haynes Classic Fusion flute (9k fused) matched with a Powell Aurumite (9k fused) headjoint.
Just looking for feedback from anybody who knows these flutes. He tried out dozens of flutes / headjoints, some way out of our budget (solid gold...), but this one sounds like some of the much more expensive models. Dont know why, but the Powell HJ worked best for him, I feel kinda funny mixing these two brands, but I've been wanting him to go with Haynes (although his Burkart Professional Piccolo is being used with a Weissman handmade HJ).
He had much better response throughout the complete register with this flute, he can reach highs he couldnt with solid gold (good thing), and reach lows he couldnt reach with Silver. This flute has the capability of both worlds.
I also get conflicting specs as to weather the keys and mechanism are Solid Silver, or Plated.

Any input will be appreciated.

Mix and match is fine as long the the headjoint and body are properly fitted to each other. A good flute shop with a flute tech can easily do that. I play a Muramatsu Flute but later changed to a WIlliams headjoint.

I play one a vintage Haynes (1960's) and a David Williams headjoint that Mr. Williams fit to my flute. It is a great match. As for info on the Haynes Classic flutes, their Web site has quite a bit of info: http://wmshaynes.com/products/haynes-classic/

Sounds like a very beautiful instrument!

Thanks for the replies!

The flute sounds great with the Powell HJ, it just worked out that way. The Powell has the Philharmonic lip plate which works very well with him. The Flute itself, plays nice and easy for him.

The ribs and posts are solid sterling silver on the Fusion, and the keys are silver-plated nickel silver, as per the official Haynes website. Hope this helps! They're fantastic flutes for the money, nearly just bought one myself.
