wing or without wing?

Post by cqflute »

Hi guys....I'm new here. Beacuse this question so bring me here...

I've playing flute for many years... And few months ago ordered a Brannen flute(body) with Lafin headjoint. I don't know there is a so called " Adler wings" on the Lafin headjoint, untill few days ago...

I did search the topic like this, but I still want to know what you guys thing about this? Especially those who played both style headjoints? With wing or not?

Thanks alot!

You have to try them yourself. I have tried one a lot over the past few days actually (14k throughout, adler wings) and it's a beautiful head joint - but I don't know what a Lafin head joint with OUT the wings is like so I can't compare. After trying quite a few gold head joints over the last few years; I kind of feel like the wings don't make a huge difference, but then I have also read that some people think they are really great and do make a difference in terms of smoothness of intervals and tone and responsiveness. I definitely feel this with the adler wings head joint by Lafin, but have also experienced it with other head joints with more traditional cuts.

Anyway really what you need to do is find a way to try Lafin head joints with and without wings to compare, and better yet - try some other head joints as well to get an even better idea.

I can assure you that the Lafin head joints with wings are very good quality head joints - the issue is whether or not it suits you and what you're looking for. :)
