Adhesive for cork

Postby Flatfive » Mon Jul 11, 2016 5:46 am

What's the best adhesive for sticking a bit of cork back on?
I'm in the UK, so brand names may not be the same here, so type of adhesive may be better.
Thanks, everyone.

Contact cement. It stays flexible so it's less likely to come off again. Some use super glue (cyanoacrylate) but the thin type is too easy to run where you don't want it to go.

I thought super glue would be a bad idea. So... contact cement it is. It's only a tiny bit of cork on my old student flute, so not critical.
Thanks for that.

For emergency fixes, it's not a bad idea to keep a small tube of super glue in a gel form and a few toothpicks handy. You can paint the gel with the toothpick quite thinly and it doesn't get everywhere. I use a lot of different adhesives for different things, but in certain circumstances, I prefer superglue to anything else. Trill corks, D# corks... I always superglue them. But if I'm using something like felt or suede for foot material, I prefer contact cement.

Toothpick... good idea. I was wondering how to get the cement from an enormous tube onto a tiny cork surface. I thought about a pin, but a toothpick will be less scratchy.
At least there are no obvious do's and don'ts. The thought I had about superglue is that it can be a bit brittle once it dries. As you say, depends what you use it for.
