there usually is only 1 piccolo in a band who is doubling as a flutist too. I was also considering earplugs, even though this is my second year with a piccolo.

well, trippple tonguing is essentially the same thing as double tonguing, just grouping them into 3's. Easier to count and work with the notes. Learning to double, tripple, and maybe flutter (prolly will use it only a few times in a lifetime) will help you to play faster and more accurate pieces. if...

get your piccolo checked...and then also...don't make your embochure (spelling) small. My teacher always tells me that you need a bigger air stream for piccolo than for flute. Also BLOW DOWN to stay in tune, and use LOTS of air. I can be heard over 7 trombones, 14 flutes, 26 clarinets, 3 trumpets (y...

blow more down into the flute on higher notes. slow down your air. you need MORE air, but that doesn't mean FASTER.

Don't use the Bb thumb key too much. It'll become a habbit and you'll hold it down during notes you shouldn't, such as high F. Try to use the lever one or the normal fingering.

f-g was my first. very easy because the two notes are pretty much the same embochure (almost) and so it's easy to get a nice sounding trill. plus i guess G is my strongest note

tightening you lips is bad for intonation and tone. blow down and with more air, not faster air, but more air for the high notes. it's creates better tone and you can avoid some problems with tone and tuning like this. don't roll in or out for high notes either.

doing the waves works, but you have to have someone listening to you. if you don't make deep changes your vibrato won't come out good.

don't try a good piccolo to start with. it's like flutes. handing a first year flutist a gold flute...won't help them at all. they will learn slower and worse than someone that started with a beginner instrument. and especially in marching, don't get a wooden picc. you're just going to waste your mo...
