Upgrading?¿?

Also Penny, your upgrading advise is very good, I upgraded a few months ago now and I've still kept my old flute for school. With the levels we play with, a better flute isn't neccessary, I mainly just use my good flute for private lessons and any solo work, where the difference to me personally and...

Upgrading?¿?

I think both comments are understandable, but I'm talking about people who have been playing for not very long, have just finished their first book and think its time to buy a luxury flute that they probably won't sound any better on because their playing isn't developed. I can understand upgrading ...

Do you take private lessons ?

I take private lessons and I swear by them. If I hadn't started them, I know I wouldn't be playing the way I do now, my flute teacher has pretty much made me the player I am so I'm really thankful for that too. I have lessons for 45 minutes, even though they're only supposed to be 30 minutes, lol. A...

Gross tones

Hi. I often play slow pieces without vibrato just to see how my tone is sounding, and I have to let you know, vibrato won't cover bad tone. So just play your long notes and listen until you are satisfied then try to add vibrato. I have to admit slow pieces do sound great with vibrato, providing the ...

Armstrong Vs Artley... any difference?

Yeah good point, a headjoint would probably cost too much. I think your idea Penny, about selling the 2 and getting something like a second hand good condition yamaha would be the best option. Yamahas are in my opinion, definately one of the best, if not the best student flutes around. I've had mine...

Who is your favorite flutist ?

Check out Sherry Winston if you want something different, she plays more jazz style and has an album. I also have a flute piece on CD that is really different, nothing like I've ever heard before in the way of its style, its quite tribal and I was amazed the hear the different styles of repetoire fl...

Upgrading?¿?

I was thinking about this the other night when I saw a post on another site saying, "I''ve had my flute for 2 years and I NEED to upgrade" I had my flute for 6 years before I even thought about upgrading and it stills plays very well, never had a problem with it. Am I one in a million or something c...

Armstrong Vs Artley... any difference?

If u just want the flute for church and stuff, I would be more enclined the fix the armstrong, it probably will last longer without work. If at any stage u want a fuller tone, you could always just buy a different headjoint, solid silver gives a fuller sound, but the cut is also important, so u coul...

HEY! Who's on now??

I thought glissando was a technique used on open
hole flutes where the player slightly uncovered then recovered the hole to bend

Armstrong Vs Artley... any difference?

I agree with Penny, in saying that Armstrong is a bit better, but neither are really great. I have played a couple of my friend's Artley's, and all I can say is I wouldn't touch one with a forty foot pole. I'm sure there are people out there who would disagree, and may have possibly come across a fa...

Tight joints

hi, dont put cork grease anywhere near your flute. its really bad. i did it to my old flute once and i regret is so much. it went black on mine, also making that part of my case black, and if i put a different headjoint in it the headjoint part goes black. simply just thoroughly clean it with your n...

Practice Time Poll

I practice between one and a half to two hours a day, plus anytime I get to practice at school, either lessons or lunch breaks. I practice pieces, tone, scales, double and triple tonguing, vibrato (even though most of my pieces are already played with vibrato) I try cover every topic throughout each...

looking for a good music dictionary

Hi. I use the Concise Oxford
Dictionary of Music. I think there are several versions of it, but mine is quite
old. [8)]
