Here are my 3 picks for under $1000 1. Pearl 665 Quantz 2. Armstrong 80 series. 3. Jupiter 611 Although I own a Yamaha 514, but I think that 300 series is a waste. The 300 series is nothing more than the 200 series with a silver headjoint. The silver headjoint plays exactly the same as the silver pl...

Just play on them, and see which one is best for you. Sounds like if you liked the Sonare. That is the instrument you should buy. The only problem is that is costs a little more than both the Gemmy and the Yamaha. All of the mentioned instruments are good instruments. My first stepup flute was a 3sh...

First of all, out of all of hte flutes own, My Pearl Quantz 665 is my favorite all around flute. I own many others. There are a lot of well made flutes with good quality. However each maker has their own personality. Some may also be hard for you to play on than others. Here is an example of my find...

Flutebabe This is not going ot be a conventional way to do things, but here is a suggestion that may work for you. The easiest way to memorize a pattern or a scale is to memorize the name of the notes, and the fingerings on the flute first. A lot of people get too stuck on reading, instead of REALLY...

IMHO If you are concerned about how you sound, and your instrument is in good playing condition, "Practice Time" is generally worth more than "Flute Dollars" A person should always strive to be the best possible player on what ever instrument they have! I know some wonderful people with wonder instr...

fluttiegurl says: It also sounds like you may be ready for an upgrade on your flute. MOre silver on your flute will make a better sound (proven fact). With even a silver headjoint, you will notice a big difference. I will not argue the fact that a silver headjoint may sound better, I will have to re...

Does it have to be classical? Show tunes and standards work out pretty good under those circumstances. "My Favorite Things" is always a good flute piece to do. It is simple, but goes over very well with a good piano player. If you can learn one of many transcribed jazz solos that are available, that...

There is an easy way to get use to playing on an open hole inline flute. Try starting out on a Tranverse Bamboo flute first. Bamboo flutes sound cool, but they are not very forgiving. After a week on a Bamboo flute, an open hole is easy!

I will have to agree with Chris on this one. I own an Armstrong 210(Silver). Most people would say <Bleck> :P but after trying out several pics, this was the one I played on the best. I also own a Rosewood Piccolo made by the ShangHai flute company in China that is also not a popular brand. My next ...

I have several flutes. (and guitars). I love all of my instruments from the $100 dollar ones to the $5000 dollar ones. Every instrument has their own personality, and when I play on a performance, I use the instrument that I can get the best out of for that performance. To keep current, I rotate my ...

Nii_Neko For you, I would high recommend going up to at least 150. In this range you could get a Barrington, Woodnote or a Selmer Prelude(I have not tried the Selmer yet.) These brands a warranteed, are supported by repair techs and have a good return policy. Jinyin is an honorable mention, but they...

Professional does not mean anything when it comes to a flute. It really is just a marketing ploy. How I know more musicians making money with "Student" and "Intermediate" models than any of the "Professional" models. That is why playability is more important than anything. When it comes to spending ...
