Re: DZW Grenadilla Flute

I personally have really liked the wooden head joints I've played (and flutes) and am thinking of them as a viable option as I search for the best solution *for me* at this point. If anyone has any experience with this instrument please do chime in.... I played on a Buffet International model with ...

Re: Miyazawa PB 102

Ok I'm a little confused by some things I've read. .....SNIP........ So which is it? Will the oval hole "traditional classic" of the Miyazawa MZ-9 offer more potential, pallet of colors etc? Or the more modern embouchure hole? Thanks Again, it does not matter. All that matters is what works best fo...

Re: Miyazawa PB 102

I can get a Pear 665 with Forza sterling head joint for 1000 dollars. My teacher does NOT like them however and says they don't hold adjustment well. I did professional performances weekly under harsh conditions and mine held up just fine. Now, the older models like the 501s were like that. Even st...

Re: New member!

I am still playing on a student instrument (Gemeinhardt 3sh), and dream of being able to somehow afford something that will allow more growth. My instrument kind of embarrasses me, but I am really and genuinely trying to become the best musician I can in spite of it. If what you have plays, then pl...

Re: Miyazawa PB 102

Phineas By worth I mean is there another flute that gets close to the PB 102 but cost less. There are several flutes that I could recommend for half of the money. But it is all a matter of preference. Also keep in mind that Miyazawa is a handmade/crafted flute. Flutes like the Pearl Quantz, Azumi, ...

Re: Miyazawa PB 102

Greetings All I'm trying out flutes (Miyazawa PB 102, Azumi AZ2, Di Zhao 600) and keep coming back to the PB 102. I know there are other flutes out there I haven't tried yet ie Muramatsu EX, higher end YFL, Pearl, Altus etc. But question is: is the Miyazawa PB-102 really worth 2900 dollars? Im not ...

Re: Happy New Year!

I just hope I can do a performance this year. I did not have a single student, nor did I do a performance in 2014. One of the downsides of living in Dallas Tx I guess.

Peace, joy, love, and prosperity to everyone in 2015!

Re: flute for wife

if i got one in the intermediate range what other options do i need to know about to make a decision? I have found that most Intermediate models from well known companies are comparable quality wise. What you choose and what features you want are a matter of preference. This is why it is important ...

Re: flute for wife

I would suggest you read here. http://www.fluteland.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5859 Past that, you need to ask yourself a few questions. 1. Does she perform or just play at home. This will make somewhat of a difference. If she is a home player and she is content with playing on a "Student" level ...

A guitar amp is not ideal, but it will work without you damaging it.

Re: I need advice on flute brands

My max price I can spend is $1700 dollars. Any information/suggestions would be much appreciated!! First of all, for that kind of money, no flute you buy will be much of a upgrade to what you already have unless you buy used. What I would do for that kind of money is get the flute serviced, t...

Re: Guo Tocco Plus?

Phineas, is there another composite flute you'd recommend over the Guo? I am very new to the idea so haven't looked at a whole lot. Not looking to spend more than about $800 or so (the Tocco Plus is $699 from the dealer on eBay). Another popular brand of composite that is out there is Nuvo. They ar...

Re: Guo Tocco Plus?

I am a big fan of composite flutes, especially the Guo brand/series of. Are they necessarily the best playing flute in the world. Not to me. Would I do a concert with one? Sure depending on the type of music of course. Just like any other flute, you just have to play on it to see if it is for you. A...

Re: Yamaha YPC-61 for a beginning piccolo player?

If it plays good, and you can afford it, go for it!!

However, if you have NEVER played Flute before, I would highly suggest starting out on flute first.

Piccolos are funny instruments. They can be very player specific how they play from the player's perspective.
