I got pretty lucky when it comes to cheap piccs. I also got pretty lucky off of ebay. Got a Venus off of Ebay for under 100. I think its much better than the plastic (and some of the silver ones) that I've seen and played. Well, I suppose that that's just a sign that you can get good cheap piccs.. b...

Theres an easy way to remedy this. Long tones every day. I've been practicing since Christmas also, and just yesterday, finally hit a high B. Just remember to keep a really tight and controlled embochure. You'll get up there.

Even though it had been through a lot in its past life (like getting more dents that you would believe), it still has a darker tone that I prefer over my Gemeindhart 2SP... Course, it has nothing on my Sonare flute. If he is looking for a step-up flu...

try doing long tones. start at the 2nd octave A, hold for 2 counts, then slur down to G sharp, and hold as long as you can. Experiment with this until your tone is perfect. Then, do the same thing, but start with G sharp, then slur to G, and so on down to C (or B if you have a B-foot) Then, start at...

I just started piccolo too. It's not that hard to play after a few days of hard practice. Just support heavily with your diaphragm (spelling??) and don't overblow. I don't know what else to say, it came pretty naturally to me.... (unlike the flute.... four years of practice and my tone still is horr...

(sarcasm on).... well, you never can teach an old dog new tricks...(sarcasm off)

In all reality, you can become just as proficient as someone younger than you. All it takes is the willpower necessary to practice (alot)

Take my advice, check out www.flute4u.com or www.fluteworld.com. Their representatives would be glad to help you find a good step-up/intermediate flute.

I'm one of those geeks who has memorized the Gemeindhart naming system...

2=beginner flute (closed holes/plateau holes)
3=french keyed flute
4=piccolo

SP=silver plated
S=solid silver
SH=solid silver head
B=B-foot

W=wooden
P=plastic

etc.
