Well I did a silly thing. I got so frustrated from struggling with the flute that I got rid of it, donated it to a charity shop. It was only a cheap flute, and it was second hand so not worth selling.
But now I find myself wanting another, better flute. Might have to go to ebay...

Buffet flutes on ebay
I've spotted a few of these on ebay, at very low prices. I never knew Buffet made flutes. When did they stop making them, and are they worth getting for a beginner?

I finally managed to get low C!
I haven't touched my flute in ages,I kind of got despondent thinking it was leaky, but I had another go and something dawned on me. Basically when previously trying to play C I'd been only pressing down on the C roller, with my fingertip. I had a close look at the pad and saw it was fully closing, b...

Re: Let's hear it!!
Ok its been a while but today I picked up the flute and the song Amazing Grace came into my head (I've played it a few times on recorder and clarinet) Anyway to my surprise I was able to make low D fairly easily. Its just a matter of careful slow breath control. I also have high D now in my toolkit ...

What are these tiny pins for?
I noticed a few of these pins sticking out of the rails. They pierce the rail but don't connect to anything underneath.

Also, does the splitting edge of my embouchure hole look thick, or is it normal? Its a cheap beginner flute.

Re: A not so leaky flute!
Well I did a light test, using my phone's torch in a dark room, all holes closed, no leaks! I could see the pads glowing but no light was escaping. I'm convinced its me. The other option I thought of is the headjoint. Its a cheap flute and the embouchure hole might not be as thin or shaped the same ...

Re: Beware Fake/Counterfeit Yamaha flutes on eBay
Spotted one of these today, a 211 at a ridiculously low price. Yes I know the 211 is now replaced by the 212 but even so a 'new' 211 would cost more than £117! Same with clarinets. A Buffet B12 at a silly price. Obviously fake, but those not in the know could easily be fooled. If it sounds too good ...

A not so leaky flute!
Well a while ago I put my flute away because I was frustrated by not being able to play the foot notes. I wasn't sure if it was me or if those bottom pads were actually leaking. I convinced myself it was the latter and I put the flute away, possibly permanently. But having recently tested my clarine...

Welcome. I am also a late learner (I'm 53) and I'm finding flute the hardest instrument to learn so far!

Re: Let's hear it!!
Well I discovered that my cork was loose- the crown was forever coming loose even when not touched. Anyway I got some advice from someone in a Facebook group and used PTFE tape to seal the cork. Its now tight in there with no leaks, and I find it it easier to get high C and low F now. https://youtu....

Re: Developing your Vibrato...
Would I use the same technique that I am able to use on my recorders? I kind of move my diaphragm up and down on those instruments.
