Was the flute your choice or was it chosen for you ?

I was reading an old thread about Mikayla being forced to play the flute. I read where at least one person was assigned the flute also. I remember when I started playing the flute..we were able to try 3 instruments and then choose the one that we wanted to play. Actually I had chosen clarinet but en...

Auditions

It may depend on what the audition is for. I think in most auditions the judges will be looking for a number of things such as Tone, Rhythm, Expression, Articulation,Technique,Intonation and sight reading skills. They may also be looking at whether the song is too easy or too difficult for you. Kim

CD Sheet music

Has anyone here bought the CD that you can download and print out your own sheet music ? If so do you like it ? They have: Ultimate Collection of Flute Solos - Ultimate Collection of Flute Methods, Studies and Ensembles It looks like a really neat idea and it would seem like a wonderful way of creat...

help

If you have not had this problem up until now then it is possible that you have some keys that are not sealing correctly. I would have someone else try your flute to see if they have the problem with the airy sound and if they do then I would take the flute into a tech to have it checked out. Kim [q...

Question about fast passages

Thanks for the replies Emily and Flutediddy. She doesn't usually have the spit problem when playing. It usually only seems to happen when she is playing a song like the one I mentioned and there isn't a whole lot of time to swallow LOL I guess she will just have to find ways to work around it unless...

piccolo's help!

Yes it is the same fingerings but there are alternate fingerings to help to keep notes in tune. If you do decide to purchase a piccolo..don't forget to pick up some earplugs also. Kim << i just dont knwo what to do about it, but thanx 4 the advice. when playing is the fingering the same as the flute>>

Memorizing

I agree I don't think it is quicker just because it is cleaner. A couple of weeks ago she tried a Haynes that made in 1942 and the key action was pretty nice on that for being an old flute in need of a cleaning. Her flute came with the CY headjoint. I have read lots of opinions from people comparing...

Memorizing

Thanks for the tips from the class. We weren't able to watch it :( My daughter is really enjoying her 561. I think she loves it more and more everyday. She has mentioned a number of times how much quicker the key action is and we notice a big difference in tone quality also. Thanks for asking :) Kim

Question about fast passages

My daughter is looking for advice in controlling the amount of spit when playing in some faster passages. Right now she is working on Carnival of Venice and by the time she gets to the end of some of the faster passages she sounds kind of like she has a lot of spit. Is this just a matter of finding ...

Do you use any certain method to aid you in memorizing songs

Hindering Progress?

I wanted to share something else with you too. Someone on another message board offered to share their notes from the recent internet Master Class that Sir James presented. I asked for a copy and was reading them this morning. One piece of advice was: Learn to play your scales fast. Sightreading wil...

Hindering Progress?

No I don't think you have wasted 5 years. It sounds like you have done pretty well for the amount of time you have been playing. Do you have a private teacher or are you working on your own ? It could be that you just need to spend some more time on site reading. Maybe if you were to divide your pra...

Can a flute play a low B flat?

Bradford~ Thanks for sharing that link. As I said above I had read that they make something special but I had never saw them before. Kim [quote] Eldred Spell has a picture of one of these things on his website http://www.eldredspellflutes.com/Widgets.htm Of course, you could just use a rolled up not...
