Nicely done, good sound, solid pulse, and interesting too. Made me pull out my axe to play against too.

Re: The Flute View's Winning Composition Now Available!
Kudos and thank you for sharing. There are some interesting techniques in the piece that could result in more flautists picking up some new sound vocab options. I've always liked the push sounds using syllables but haven't developed the technique myself.

Re: To upgrade or not to upgrade...
I found establishing a good relationship with a tech to be very valuable. Sounds like it's time to have your instrument checked over again. Just be happy you don't play 10 instruments like I do. The costs for maintenance, reeds, etc. can be prohibitive. Enjoy.

Closed hole indicates that this is a beginner instrument. Today there is one for sale on eBay for ~$60.

Software Notation Update
Upgrade bottom line: SIBELIUS If you use Sibelius 7, I think that's a good version to stick with for now. (that's the version I use for most of my work.) If you use Sibelius 7.5, that's fine too. (This version added some small new features, but it also changed the file format, so it's annoying to sh...

Re: Starting to look for a (used) flute
I remember returning to music performance after a 30-year break. Buying my first instrument then was such a heady trip, I was sure there would be the perfect instrument out there. 12 years and 50 plus instruments later (buying for my wife, son, daughter, grandkids, etc.) I have come to realize that ...

Re: Flute isn't working properly
How long has it been since you've had your flute checked out? In can be very frustrating to battle a flawed instrument, especially when you find out it didn't cost that much to fix. Good luck!

Re: New To Forum - Shopping For New Flute!
I just double on flute, but I know getting a custom cut head was the best thing I could do for the money. As a student, you might be going for some kind of fingering advantage though. Good luck and do let us know what you decided to do.

Re: Trying New Sounds, I got one
I love exploring flutters, cluck tongue, weird trills, and multiphonics. Multiphonics can be fun too. A multiphonic is an extended technique on a monophonic musical instrument (one which generally produces only one note at a time) in which several notes are produced at once. This includes wind, reed...

Re: Is this flute an improvement? (Jupiter 511RII over Armstrong 102)
Great answer! When I sell my personal instruments they always go fast because the potential buyer sits down with me and plays them first. A good instrument should be a joy to play. The last used instrument I sold to a friend was so prized, their son used it the next week for a state competition. The...

Re: What's the point of a solid silver gemeinhardt
When I purchased a new Gemeinhardt 3SBH for $300, I liked it but as a doubler suffered the inherent learning curve for this reed player. I got a custom cut head on sale for another $300 and suddenly my Gemeinhardt spoke for me. YMMV, but part of the fun is seeking that sound that you want. Good luck!

Re: Jupiter 507S flute with case, bought 3 months ago. Flute and case are new.
That is a very nice closed-hole beginner instrument that goes for $900 at most online music stores. But since we really don't know you, it might be hard to sell it this way. If you don't want to use eBay, where purchases can be vetted to some degree, consider contacting local band teachers to place ...
