Re: Comfortable Upper Range

I often wish that some low range passages could be mic'd to carry better without blowing your brains out. Quieting down a wind ensemble can sometimes be a challenge. Re: Questions about my Emerson Flute

You might start with a local music store who have been known to allow trades for new instruments.

It's great to select song that will interest all age groups. This one is unique enough to get some people talking. Thanks for the share.

Re: Purchasing an Intermediate Flute

There is no magic bullet for instruments. There are so many really good flutes. And many of us buy used pro flutes for less than the price of a new intermediate flute. We all have our favorites, and those favs can be based on less than scientific analysis. As long as you shy away from cheap, no name...

Love the suggestion here. I would also consider some sessions with the best instructor you can find/afford. It could save you a *lot* of time.

Re: What is your favourite beginner flute? Has it been ousted?

This is hard because I really believe in starting an adult beginner on a decent flute. The Gemeinhardt 3sh has been my go-to recommendation for a long time because for a while you could get a new one for $300 on eBay (did it twice, once for me and two years later for my wife after she wanted my flut...

Re: tone

Do you have an experienced flute playing friend who can check out your instrument for you? Maybe you can trade instruments just to see if you have the same problem on their flute. When I do this I use Mi-T-Mist mouthpiece cleaner between players. Good luck.

Re: Hand pain?

Have you checked with your doctor to see if there is a physical problem that needs to be addressed?

Re: Step up flute??

Have you talked to your music instructor? If you are going to college next year, you might stop in to see your college music professor?

Re: Question about flute value - solid silver, Gemeinhardt

Once you figure out the model number (might have to visit local music instrument store), you can search eBay to see what they have been selling for.

Re: Alto Flute(s)

Most players of alto flute that I know preferred saving longer to get the instrument they really like. We are playing Scheherazade https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tL52dcNVdXw for our March concert and the alto flute solo is so lovely.
