Thanx for all the great ideas! Also I meant F concert scale and arpeggio. The drummers keep a steady beat when we as a band do scales. Also I can't 'just quit band'. Because I love it! It may be boring sometimes but sometimes it can be fun and challenging. Not to mention if I don't do band in middle...

Saxophones

As much as I like to believe stereo types on musicians aren''t true, the musicians in my band continue to show other wise. Like the saxophones in our band: I''m always like, do you ever shut up? And I like music and I like the sax as much as the next person but, immediately after band instead of put...

In band, we are now working on playing the F scale and arpeggio and I''m going to level with you...it''s NOT CHALLENGING! I want more challenging things to work on and work for, but I can hardly go up to my band director, who has enough work to do, and ask her,"I want music." How to I find out about...

What is Your Opinion on Male Flutists?

I WISH I had guy flutists in my band by the way. I'm surrounded by a bunch of girls and though that means always having a chatty partner (which I couldn't live with out) it also means giving me the urge to talk when I'm not supposed to and giggling when I mess up. Also guys are cool, I like guys, LOL.

College Band Camps

Well my friend went to an away band camp for a week last summer and she liked it. They had lots of lessons and practice though, but afterwards they got to swim and skate and order pizza and stuff. It costs about $350, I had only been playing flute for about 8 months when the money and stuff was due ...

I've never played that song or
heard of it, but it sounds interesting. I'll look it up.

Low Notes = High ARRRRR Somebody help!

Since you are fairly new to flute low notes and high notes will come with time. I taught myself how to play the flute and am doing fine and am caught up with my peers but it took me at least a few months before that lowest C came out steadily. Also I've noticed that on one of my flutes many low note...

what's apreggio

Though I always have practiced arpeggios (I like the
way they sound lol) we haven't started using them with out scales in band until
this year. In fact I just had a test on two octaves of the Eb scale and arpeggio
(100%!)

Flute Room

The size of my band is about the same as yours 185 people
about. And the amound of flutes are about 25. Everyone is allowed to be in band
as long as they don't fool around. It used to be more but since then people
have quit.

Irish

For our next band concert in March we are playing songs with an Irish theme. This is my first time playing true Irish songs and I love it! Even more so than jazz. I''m not sure but in some of the songs we''re playing I feel as if the flute is featured a little more than usual is that usual for most ...

3rd Octave blues

In my previous post I didn't really give any tips on how to get that E3 out. Since you've only been playing for 2 months it may take some time for you to develop the lip placement best for you but here's my suggestions: _Faster air = higher notes _Make sure finger placement is correct _Try going fro...

3rd Octave blues

Before playing the flute I played the sax as well! (but only for 2 years). As for your octave problem. . .don't push yourself to hard. You've only been playing for two months. I can see where you're coming from, see because you've been playing the sax for years and when you switch to a new instrumen...

My nickname is Starburst and I've been playing the flute for about 1 1/2 years (previously playing alto sax for 2 years). I'm in 7th grade band. My flute is a Gemienhardt (I have another one but it's a no name company) C foot, closed hole. I love the flute and I love music other interests of mine ar...

Octave Change / Learning at Home

[quote] ---------------- On 1/5/2004 12:21:51 PM Greetings, Another question or two... when playing the C Major Scale, C and D play one octave above Middle C- matching the chart I am using. But beginning with E and for the rest of the scale, the notes are an octave lower. Am I doing something wrong ...
