going for great
I know that about 90% of this board is people over the age of 10 which would be about the age level of this fiction book (I read it in about less than an hour, though I''m a speedy reader). And though it is not the highest reading level, it''s a good fiction story about a flutist whereas there aren'...

Why are flutes marching bands
---------------- On 2/5/2004 6:53:03 PM Why are flutes in marching bands; you can hardly ever hear them. Is anyone here in a marching band? ----------------
Actually, piccolos are quite sufficient for marching band (can be heard from far away and are loud). In a school band, flute m...

Contest!
Tomorrow is the day of my contest! I''m playing a solo (called "The Magic Flute") and a duet. I''m really confident in my solo playing. . .but I''m kinda worried over my duet. . .I hate to say it, but the girl I''m playing with, well[:blackeye:], either isn''t good or doesn''t practice. Our duet sou...

Like a said, we couldn't put any woodwind instruments in
water because of the pads. If the pads got wet they would mold and not be useful
in cover holes.

How much is yours? Is it just something to play as a
side thing-do you have another flute that you serious play or is your crystal
flute it?

Solo's or Duet's
At school we have a 6th grade jazz band, Jazz Lab 7-8th grade (no audition) and Jazz Experience 7-8th grade (audition). We don't have solo's or duets play at concerts however there is a yearly solo and ensemble contest (it's not required) for 7-8th graders which is in 2 weeks. I'm going to be playin...

+100 things to think about . . .
Have you ever heard that playing an instument is good for the mind and been like "Okay thanx for the info." but not actually knowing why? Well the reason is it stimulates the mind because you need to remember so many things at once such as: -correct posture -correct finger placement -tonguing -beat ...

What is Your Opinion on Male Flutists?
It think it is true about the higher pitch thing. I agree totally. Strong low instruments such as trombones, tubas, and baritones are most guys first picks, but what does that say about trumpets who rarely play low or alto saxophones? Mostly guys play those two instruments in my band and that doesn'...

Crystal Flutes
I was onmusic2master.com and I saw special flute swabs for crystal flutes. I've never heard of a crystal flute. Is is made out of crystal or is it just clear or is it just a brand name or something? Is is like a normal flute or is it for decoration? But I why would there be special rods for crystal ...

What flute method book do you use ?
For school we use two books called "I Recommend" and "Winning Rhythms". "I Recommend" has scales and different ways to play them and their appegios. It also has etudes, but not any songs. I personally don't like it as an everyday book, but it is really good for someone who is really trying to work o...

Okay, the website dance.net has mostly forums and info for dancers, but they do have a forum for people who play instruments that you might be interested. Also on dance.net there are things posted about different auditions and people who need a band to play or something. I''m not saying to forget ab...

Voice Your Opinion
---------------- On 1/23/2004 9:18:52 AM It is hard to say what level you shoul be playing at. Different countries seem to have different criteria to be met for each level. In the state that I live in I rarely even here "level's" mentioned. I know that my daughter has looked at various lists...
---------------- On 1/22/2004 11:18:57 PM Greetings, When I have been practicing awhile, my left shoulder tightens up and hurts, and I realize that I'm tense all over. I've been officially taking lessons for two weeks. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this when they began or knows ...
